Мы знаем, что такое a tug-of-war — это перетягивание каната; похожее выражение a tug of love («любовное перетягивание»), вошедшее в обиход в 1970-х гг., относится к поведению разводящихся родителей, которые не могут договориться о том, с кем останутся дети, превращающиеся в tug-of-love children. Это выражение впервые появилось в 1907 г. как заглавие пьесы 'The Tug of Love' английского писателя Израэля Зангвилла (1864—1926).
